Three Bend Elks players have been selected for the West Coast League All-Star Game, the league announced Monday.
Outfielder Derek Chapman, infielder Collin Runge and relief pitcher Khalil Rivera were named to the South Division team for the game, which will be held July 18 in Yakima, Washington.
Chapman, in his third year with the Elks, has been the workhorse at the top of the lineup. Through Sunday’s games, the Washington State Cougar was in the WCL top 10 in nearly every statistical category, leading the league in at-bats (131) and hits (46) while hitting .351. He was leading the Elks in runs (27), home runs (three) and RBIs (19).
Runge, an second baseman heading to the University of Portland next season, was batting .307 with a league-leading 12 stolen bases while being caught stealing just twice. A product of Redmond’s Ridgeview High, Runge has a .957 fielding percentage at second base.
Rivera, from Treasure Valley Community College, has a 1.17 ERA and three saves in 12 relief appearances. The right-hander had not allowed a run heading into Monday’s game in his past 10 outings dating back to June 12.
