Nov. 13, 1944 - Apr. 23, 2014
Born November 13, 1944 in McMinnville, Oregon to Mike and Bette Maxfield, Kristan, with her family around her, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. Her testimony of faith, love and strength never wavered during that battle.
Kristan graduated from North Salem High School in 1962. She attended Western Oregon College and then graduated from Oregon State University in 1966 with a degree in elementary education and art.
Kristan and Vic met in the spring of her junior year at OSU and they were inseparable from that point on. They married while Vic was at Naval Flight School during the Christmas break in 1966.
Kristans life was a testimony of her faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. That testimony provided a rock to her husband and family.
Kristans goals in life were to teach and raise a family. She did both extraordinarily well. Before starting a family, Kris taught in public and private schools. Her love was teaching first grade but she also taught art at the high school level.
When Kristan and Vic were blessed to begin their family, from that point on Kristan devoted the same energy, commitment and faithfulness to raising five children and supporting Vic in his consulting work. She was also a mother figure to her childrens friends. She always cared about children, it didn't matter if the children were hers or someone else's, if they were young or grown, or even if she'd ever see them again. She fed, encouraged, and invested in them all with equal enthusiasm.
Kristan had a wide range of interests centered upon her family and the Bible. She was an avid home decorator, artist, communicated through wonderful letters, gardened, canoed, mountain biked, enjoyed target practice. Most of all, she focused on caring for her family. She set the bar high for what it means to be the matriarch of a family. A testimony of her is the fact that all of her children, their spouses and older grandchildren profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Kristan is survived by her husband, Vic; her children, Caleb, Samuel, Jennifer, Joshua and Daniel and their spouses, Lori, Sara, Jason DiSenso, Emily and Torri; grandchildren, Brandon, Noah, Max, Rex, Sophia DiSenso, Taylor, Brynlea, Evangeline, Garfield and Avonlea; and her brother, Curtis Maxfield.
A memorial service will be held for Kristan 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Mountain View Bible Church, 211 NE Revere Ave., Bend, OR 97701.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Partners in Care Hospice House.
