JoAn Mann has a lovely evening of music planned Sunday night as part of her Music in the Glen house concert series in Bend.
The bill includes Portland artist Anna Tivel, who has, in the past, graced the Sisters Folk Festival with her wide-eyed, celestial folk songs. To my ears, she belongs in a similar ballpark with Anais Mitchell, Gregory Alan Isakov and Laura Veirs, where gentle picking plucks among occasionally unconventional sounds and a gorgeous voice tells stories of life in a world of natural wonders.
Then there’s Jeffrey Martin, a Eugene product whose highly literate folk songs recall Slaid Cleaves or the quieter moments of Steve Earle.
Weather permitting, part of the show will be held outside, but Mann says she has plenty of chairs, so “just bring you.” If you come to the potluck before the show, bring some food or drink to share. Also, be nice and let Mann know you’re coming. Her contact info is below.
Anna Tivel and Jeffrey Martin; 7 p.m. Sunday, potluck at 6 p.m.; $10-$15 suggested donation; Music in the Glen, 1019 N.W. Stannium Drive, Bend; RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or 541-480-8830.
