A controlled burn is planned for Tuesday near Lake Billy Chinook, according to the Deschutes National Forest.
Residents of Madras and Redmond should see smoke, but are not expected to be affected by smoke in their communities. Some smoke may pool in the Lake Billy Chinook area overnight.
The 155-acre project is the first controlled burn of the fall in the Deschutes National Forest. The burn is expected to take no more than two days to complete, and is intended to improve wildlife habitat by burning grasses and shrubs among the tall trees in the burn area.
