Fish hatchery, campgrounds near Camp Sherman reopen

Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery and four campgrounds near Camp Sherman have reopened as fire crews close in on full containment of the Bridge 99 Complex Fire.

The hatchery, as well as Allen Springs, Pioneer Ford, Lower Bridge and Candle Creek campgrounds, are all open again, the Sisters Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest announced Monday. Forest Road 14 north of Camp Sherman along the Metolius River is also open again, but some forest roads close to the fire remain closed.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office still has a level 1 evacuation warning up for private lands along the Metolius from Allen Springs to Lake Billy Chinook. A level 1 warning means people should be ready to evacuate if needed.

Lightning started the Bridge 99 Complex Fire on July 13. As of Monday the fire was 88 percent contained. Nearly 300 firefighters were still working to fully corral the fire.
