Residents of Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties will have the chance to apply for rental housing vouchers starting Monday.

Housing Works, a nonprofit organization that oversees the voucher program, said the wait list will take new applications starting Monday at 8 a.m. through Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. The Housing Choice Voucher Program was formerly known as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 8 program.

The program is open to low-income qualified residents of the tri-county area. Once submitted, applications will go through a computer-based lottery system for placement on the waiting list. Anyone who is currently on the waiting list must reapply in 2017.

Applicants must apply online at Housing Works staff is available to help anyone fill out the application.
