Bulletin staff report

An online video of a Bend man firing a gun in the air early New Year’s Day led to his arrest Wednesday evening, according to Bend Police.

Victor Divon Chavez, 18, is being held at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree theft by receiving, and possession, manufacture, and delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school.

The Snapchat video, shared with police as part of an anonymous tip, showed a man police say is Chavez firing the gun out the window of a moving vehicle on Southeast Ninth Street shortly after midnight.

Officers contacted Chavez Wednesday evening, and searched his home in the 61000 block of Chikamin Drive near Jewell Elementary School.

The search located the handgun fired in the video, police said in a news release, as well as two other firearms, one of which was stolen from a Sunriver home in 2017.

Officers also located an undisclosed quantity of cocaine, packaging materials and drug paraphernalia in Chavez’s room.

Chavez was still in jail as of Thursday night. His bail is set at $90,000.
