Smoke alarms caught commercial fire

A steel container that collects dust at Bend Plating was damaged during a Friday morning fire.
Bend Fire responded to the commercial fire at 9:06 a.m. at 550 SE Bridgeford Blvd., according to a release from the department.

Crews found the fire was inside of a hopper, a piece of industrial equipment that catches dust, and is valued at about $45,000, according to the release.
The fire and smoke detection systems all worked, meaning the fire was caught early. Bend Fire estimated the loss was about $2,500, the release said.
