A Jefferson County neighborhood appears to have approved a permanent tax to pay for road maintenance and improvement.
The measure to form the Canyon View Special Road District in Tuesday’s primary election was passing by seven votes as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office.
The special road district would be formed by implementing a permanent tax of $1.50 per $1,000 of the assessed property value. The tax would go into effect for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
In the first year, the road district tax revenue for the neighborhood of 93 homeowners is estimated at $28,473.
The Jefferson County Commission would appoint a three-person board for the district.
The road district would include most of the Canyon View Subdivision.
In addition, properties on SE Rodeo Lane, SE Nugget Lane, SE Bitterbrush Drive, SE Zapata Place, SE Laredo Place, SE Pecos Drive, SE Dry Gulch Lane and a portion of SE Sagebrush Lane are included within the boundaries of the proposed road district.
The rate would not fluctuate with the real estate market.
