Animal welfare officials and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office seized 53 dogs Friday from a La Pine home, according to a statement from Lynne Ouchida, a spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Central Oregon in Bend.
There were so many dogs that the humane society did not have enough kennel space and turned over 22 dogs to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, which picked up them Saturday, Ouchida said.
Officials were asked to check on the dogs at the home of a 63-year-old woman who lives in the 51000 block of Ash Road in La Pine. Removing and evaluating the dogs took all night Friday and all day Saturday to complete.
Dr. Crystal Bloodworth, a veterinarian at the Bend facility, worked with staffers to evaluate and treat the dogs, Ouchida said. The breeds, ages and medical conditions of the dogs vary. They are currently not available for adoption.
