A third arrest was made Wednesday in connection with a pair of weekend Bend hotel robberies, and an intense police investigation is winding down.

Bend resident Ryan Donovan Simpson, 33, was taken in on suspicion of first-degree robbery and second-degree theft.

His arrest occurred about 3 p.m. outside Motel West on NE Irving Avenue. Officers following the vehicle he was riding in waited until it entered a parking lot before contacting him, to reduce the possibility of a high-speed chase, according to Bend Police Lt. Clint Burleigh.

About an hour earlier, officers were warned to consider Simpson armed and dangerous.

Early Sunday morning, the Days Inn at 849 NE Third St. was robbed by a gunman, and the Super 8 Bend at 1275 SE Third St. was held up early Monday.

In the next two days, a major investigation involving patrol officers working overtime and police search dogs yielded arrests of two suspects — Scott Hilton Sullivan, 32, Monday evening, and Jason Lee House, 36, Tuesday afternoon.

Burleigh said Simpson and Sullivan are considered responsible for the Super 8 robbery. All three men are believed responsible for the robbery of the Days Inn.

Burleigh said search warrants for cellphone records could lead to additional arrests. But for now, much of the energy behind the investigation has died down.

“I believe we’ve arrested everyone directly involved with the robberies,” he said.
