A Redmond woman received non-life threatening injuries in a crash that shut down Oregon Highway 126 for an hour early today, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said.

Rachael Allmand-Abarca, 27, was driving west on the highway near Helmholtz Way when she lost control of her SUV. The car struck a metal power pole before rolling over and coming to rest upside down in the middle of the highway.

Authorities were dispatched around 4 a.m. to the scene, where Allmand-Abarca was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Redmond Fire Department personnel. She was taken to St. Charles Redmond.

Deputies believe Allmand-Abarca lost control of her vehicle after attempting to reach for her phone. Alcohol and distracted driving appear to be factors, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
