It’s time to stop celebrating the one-piece swimsuit as a “new” summer trend.

The iconic swimwear has been a part of our culture for decades. But now that skinny, fit women like Kourtney Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski and Selena Gomez are wearing them, it’s suddenly deemed to be “sexy.”

All the women who have been previously shamed for putting on a bikini and then convinced to switch to the one-piece are giving that notion some serious side-eye this summer. Where was the love for the women who have been on trend for years?

For far too long, two-piece swimwear dominated swimsuit season trends. But now fashion websites are saying it is fashionably chic to be covering up the tummy this summer.

According to USA Today, “one-piece swimsuits are summer’s must-have trend.” It’s safe to say that for many women, it was summer’s only trend.

Yes, the one-piece swimsuit is flattering on all body types. It hugs your curves in the best areas. I love how it hides the bloating that comes with eating while out by the pool (because who doesn’t love eating a burger that’s fresh off the grill after swimming all day?). If there’s a way to hide the food babies, I’m always looking to do so.

And this is not a takedown of the bikini. There’s something about the two piece that can make you feel confident, too.

I’m advocating for self-love and the appreciation for all body types. Wear what you feel comfortable in and flaunt it this summer.
