Central Oregon Beer Week is on its way
Central Oregon Beer Week is set for May 23-31. The aim? Celebrating the region’s thriving craft-beer industry with nine days of special events.
There is tons of info on this thing at www.centraloregon beerweek.com, but here are some highlights of the schedule: live music and beers at Broken Top Bottle Shop, Worthy Brewing, Crow’s Feet Commons; Mt. Bachelor’s Springtacular BrewSki; a wing-eating contest at Pour House Grill; brew festivals at Growler Phil’s in Bend and Sunriver Resort; a brewers’ lunch at 10 Barrel and a dinner at Three Creeks in Sisters; Deschutes Brewery’s “beer-lesque” show at Old Stone Church; and more.
Also planned: a SMaSH Festival, featuring beers that emphasize the flavor of a single malt and a single hop.
Finally, Central Oregon has set aside some time to celebrate beer and its associated culture!
Third Fermentation Celebration set for June
The third annual Fermentation Celebration will be held June 19 in Bend’s Old Mill District.
The event — described as a beer walk through the Old Mill, with tastings from regional breweries — will feature unique, experimental and limited-release brews, some available only at the Fermentation Celebration.
Entry is free, and the event will run from 4-10 p.m. If you want to drink, you’ll need to pay $20, which buys drink tickets and a commemorative pint glass. Each beverage will be poured at select locations within a four-block area. Families and pets are welcome.
All 29 local breweries will participate, as will the Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization, according to the Old Mill.
Three Creeks hosts first homebrew contest
Three Creeks Brewing in Sisters is holding its first homebrewing competition, with 32 spots available.
A batch of the winning beer will be brewed by Three Creeks and featured at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival, to be held in Denver in October (pending the festival’s acceptance of Three Creeks into the event). The winner will be announced on July 20.
Applications are available at Three Creeks, Platypus Pub in Bend and Redmond Craft Beer Supply. Deadline to enter is June 15.
