Cascade Lakes celebrates 20 years

Redmond brewery plans parties, releases new IPA

It’s been 20 years since Cascade Lakes Brewing Co. first set up shop in Central Oregon, and the brewery is planning on marking the occasion with a new beer and more brewing equipment.

The Redmond-based brewery, which makes brews such as Monkey Face Porter and Blonde Bombshell, is releasing a 20th Anniversary IPA this month. The new beer, which is heavy on Citra, Liberty and Centennial Hops, comes in at 82 IBUs and a 6.4 percent alcohol content, and is now available on tap at the brewery’s Bend pub along with stores and locations in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

“We’ve been making small batches of the IPA for local pubs over the past year, and it’s been super successful,” said Chris Justema, co-owner of Cascade Lakes Brewing. “We’re really excited about the liquid.”

In celebration of the beer release and their 20 years in the Central Oregon beer scene, the brewery is having a series of celebration release parties over the next few weeks. On Wednesday, the brewery will throw a release party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Jersey Boys Pizzeria (527 N.W. Elm Ave., Redmond), and on Thursday, a party will be held at Broken Top Bottle Shop & Ale Cafe (1740 N.W. Pence Lane, Suite 1, Bend) from 6-9 p.m.

And even though the brewery has been going strong for 20 years, it’s continuing to grow. This spring, the brewery will add additional fermentation tanks to its Redmond brew space, and will also get a new brew kettle to replace its old one, which has been through two decades of hard use.

Justema said it’s been exciting to watch Central Oregon become a beer mecca over the years.

“We’re really proud to be part of the local brewing community and to have been making beer here for 20 years,” Justema said. “We’ve never felt better about our product. We feel excited and energized.”
