Families get help filling out FAFSA
Redmond High School will host a free event Saturday designed to help college-bound students and their families navigate the process of applying for federal student financial aid.
The event is part of College Goal Oregon, a program that hosts such events across the state annually in an effort to help students and families apply for financial aid. This will be the only College Goal Oregon event held in Central Oregon this year.
Attendees will receive help filling out Free Application for Federal Student Aid applications (FAFSA). They are asked to bring a recent, completed federal tax return, a current value of assets, social security numbers for both the student and parents, driver’s license and, for those who are not U.S. citizens, an alien registration card.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Redmond High School, 675 S.W. Rimrock Drive. Registration is not required.

Midwinter food, clothing drive set
Jake’s Diner is hosting a midwinter drive to gather food and clothing for the homeless. Midwinter is the time that people most need help with food, clothing and other essentials, according to diner owner Lyle Hick, whose east Bend establishment has collected coats, blankets, sleeping bags and food for the homeless since 1995.
Articles for donation can be dropped off at Jake’s Diner, 2210 N.E. U.S. Highway 20, Bend. All proceeds and items collected will go directly to the homeless through Central Oregon Veterans Outreach.
