Many Central Oregon schools close again

COCC, OSU-Cascades also close; Crook County School District is open

Most schools and colleges in Central Oregon closed again Wednesday because of winter weather and road conditions.

The Bend-La Pine, Jefferson County, Redmond and Sisters school districts canceled classes Wednesday. Central Oregon Community College and Oregon State University — Cascades also canceled classes and closed their campuses.

However, the Crook County School District announced its schools are open and running on time. The Deschutes County Circuit Court also announced that it would open at 9 a.m., and state agencies planned to open at 10 a.m. in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties.

Those closing cited the snowstorm and resulting road conditions that made driving difficult, especially on secondary and neighborhood streets.

The National Weather Service extended the winter storm warning covering areas around Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Prineville and Madras until 10 a.m. Wednesday. On Tuesday, the agency expected the warning to end at 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Those areas could received an additional inch of snow Wednesday morning, according to the Weather Service website.

While daytime temperatures Wednesday and Thursday are expected to reach the high-teens and low 20s, the low temperatures are predicted to fall below zero in Bend, according to a Weather Service forecast issued early Wednesday morning.

The forecast predicts daytime temperatures will rise above freezing starting early Sunday and remain in the mid-to-upper 30s Monday and Tuesday.
