The state of modern metal places too much value on extremism: Who’s the heaviest, the darkest, the most shocking, the most technical.
Sometimes it seems like it’s not enough to just be a solid heavy metal band anymore.
Portland’s Agnozia is a solid heavy metal band that has been around since 2008. The band plays fast — Mike Townsend’s rat-tat-tat drums are always prominent — but also incorporates plenty of melody into its sound, which is always welcome in metal.
Agnozia cites a variety of influences, from Napalm Death and Gojira to Soundgarden and Faith No More to Adele and Jeff Buckley. They’ll play twice in the region this weekend.
