According to the band’s website, The Steel Wheels took its name as “a tip of the hat to steam-powered trains, industrial progress and the buggies of their Mennonite lineage,” rather than The Rolling Stones’ late-’80s comeback tour and album. And since 2004, the former has been about where the Virginia string quartet has fallen, musically speaking: rich harmonies, rapid-fire strumming and old-timey swagger. But on this year’s “Wild As We Came Here,” the latter reference might actually make some amount of sense — for the first time, the band employed keyboards, percussion and even what sounds like an electric guitar or two (on the stomping blues riff “Broken Mandolin”). The Steel Wheels will perform at the Domino Room on Saturday.
The Steel Wheels, with The Brevet, Honey Don’t: 8 p.m. Saturday; $12 plus fees; Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; redlightpro.com or 541-408-4329.
