COCC’s Big Band Jazz to hold spring concert

Directed by Warren Zaiger, Central Oregon Community College’s Big Band Jazz will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pinckney Center for the Arts, located at 2600 N.W. College Way in Bend.

Summer music camps

Stave off the vocal rust and musical dust with Cascade School of Music in Bend, now enrolling students for summer camps and classes.

Classes begin June 16 and include Discover Music Camp, Rock Band 101, Let’s Sing and Summer Strings.

New plays on tap

Every once in a while, local theaters in Bend open new productions on the same nights. That’s the case with upcoming shows of the musical “Sweeney Todd” at 2nd Street Theater and drawing-room thriller “Communicating Doors” at Greenwood Playhouse, both of which open June 13.

Plan accordingly. At 2nd Street, 221 N.E. Lafayette Ave., Juliah Rae serves as director of “Sweeney Todd,” with musical direction by Scott Michaelsen. The play runs through June 29. Tickets are $22, $19 for students and seniors. Contact: www.2ndstreettheater.com or 541-312-9626.

Atelier 6000 changes

Atelier 6000 printmaking and book arts studio in Bend has undergone several recent leadership changes. Founder Pat Clark is now serving as board president, with Dawn Boone taking over the role of executive director of A6. Julie Winter, who served as interim director for several months, will now work as studio and gallery director.

A6 is currently exhibiting 21 works by famed 20th century artist and printmaker M.C. Escher. The exhibit is up through May, which means you have one week left to catch the show. The gallery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
