Bend playwright’s work becomes film

A short film of Bend playwright Cricket Daniel’s 10-minute play “Break Dreams” was shot Nov. 9-10 in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The film version of “Break Dreams” is directed by Paul Mathieu and stars Susan Isaacs and Garrett Swann. After the indpendent film’s completion, Daniel plans to enter it in as many film festivals as possible.

Daniel is a member of The Dramatist Guild of America. “Break Dreams” was selected for the 2012 Six Women Playwriting Festival in Colorado Springs, Colo., and was a finalist for the City Theatre’s 2013 National Award for Short Playwriting Contest in Miami.

Artist bound for World Equestrian Games

Sisters artist Kimry Jelen has been invited to exhibit paintings at the World Equestrian Games taking place in August 2014 in Normandy, France.

La Galerie du Cheval (The Gallery of the Horse) will have a booth featuring Jelen and five other artists. Jelen, the lone American artist invited, will take paintings representing her love of the West’s open spaces and the wild and domestic horses inhabiting that space.

Along with shipping costs, Jelen will incur taxes and other fees, so she has started a fundraising campaign to transport her paintings. Supporters can purchase a 2014 calendar at , and a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign has been launched at The Kickstarter campaign continues through Dec. 1.
