Caldera holds Open Studio

January artists in residence will share their works

Open Studios Saturday at Caldera Arts Center

Each month from January through March Caldera Arts Center near Sisters hosts several monthly Artists in Residence, affording the opportunity for painters, photographers, choreographers, writers and others the space — and what a space it is — to work on their respective pursuits.

Fortunately for us nosy types, at the end of each month, Caldera hosts Open Studio events so we can get a peek at what the artists have been working on.

Caldera will host this year’s first the winter Open Studios from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. The January 2015 Artists in Residence — Amy Bonnaffons, Glendaliz Camacho, Sonja Dahl, Jeff Leake, Tamara Lynne, Kaila Farrell-Smith and John Whitten — “will share their works in progress and talk about the ways their creative processes have evolved while at Caldera,” according to a press release.

The event is free and open to the public, no need to RSVP. Caldera Arts is located at 31500 Blue Lake Drive, off U.S. Highway 20 between Blue and Suttle lakes northwest of Sisters. (Pro tip: the building and its fireplace are reason enough to go check it out.)

This winter’s other Open Studios will be held Feb. 28 and March 28.

If you’d like to land a one-month residency for yourself, applications are being accepted through June 15. And if food is your medium, Caldera is opening residency opportunities for culinary artists in 2016.
