Central Oregonian wins multiple world championships: Bend resident Joe Cullison won nine titles at the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association International Championship, staged July 9-15 in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Cullison, 44, was victorious in the divisions of big bore standing; big bore unlimited standing; big bore standing aggregate; big bore four-gun aggregate; small bore standing aggregate; field pistol, any sight; and field pistol aggregate.

Additionally, Cullison won the ironman division for overall world champion, and he was also a member of the four-person United States team that won the team event. According to Cullison, he has now won the ironman competition at the world championships three out of the past four years.

Metallic silhouette shooting is a sport in which participants shoot at animal-shaped metal targets from ranges of 25 yards to 200 meters. The Oregon state championships for metallic silhouette shooting will take place Aug. 11-14 at the Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association facility, located about 25 miles east of Bend off U.S. Highway 20.
