Shame on you, John Gottberg Anderson! And shame on The Bulletin for publishing three pages of free advertising for Portland businesses (“A Portland treasure hunt,” Dec. 2)!
Where are the three-page spreads on unique, local, handcrafted stores and galleries in Sisters, Bend and Redmond? How do you think your small, retail advertisers feel about your glowing recommendation to head to Portland for Christmas shopping?
I have been upset with The Bulletin at various times over the past 35 years, but I don’t think I have ever been as disheartened as I was when I started to read this article. Knowing firsthand the desperate attempts our local retailers are making to survive, it seems totally irresponsible for this newspaper to intentionally undercut their efforts. I hope you will think twice in the future before publishing fluff pieces with such damaging potential.
