More than 167,000 Oregonians spent a combined 191 million hours providing unpaid care for a person who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia in 2012, according to a report the Alzheimer’s Association released this week. The total value of that care was $2.3 million.

According to the report, it’s estimated that 1 of 3 seniors who die this year will have suffered from Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. The cost of caring for Alzheimer’s sufferers in the U.S. will top $203 billion this year.
