Laurene A. Boardman

April 23, 1913 - March 15, 2013

Laurene was born in Bend, on April 23, 1913 to Roy and Anna Boardman. She passed peacefully on March 15, at 99 years of age. Laurene was the first baby baptized at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

She went to Southern Oregon State College. She received her bachelors degree in education from San Jose State University in 1940. She received a masters degree in Art from San Jose State in 1955. She attended the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.

Laurene began her teaching career in one room schools and mill camps. Most of the mill camp classrooms were converted boxcars. She went on to teach art at San Luis Obispo Jr. High and retired in 1971. She was an accomplished artist and a member of the Oregon Water Color Society.

She had a great love of the outdoors. She cross country skied, and was an avid hiker. She and her sister Wanda were members of a local hiking group and hiked into their 90s.

Laurene was proceeded in death by her brothers, Floyd and Chuck; and her sister, Mabel. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Truett of Bend; her nephews, Michael and Richard Truett; and her nieces, Barbie Aspengren and Annie Long. She leaves three generations of family members that will miss her greatly.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 22, at Pilot Butte Cemetery, at 1:00 p.m.
