April 13, 1939 - Feb. 22, 2013
Jean Taylor lived her life with a passionate desire to glorify Jesus Christ in all of her thoughts and actions.
Born Virginia Jean Herbert to parents Sid and Eva, she grew up in Elk Grove, CA, as an
only child. She attended Sacramento State College where she obtained a degree in elementary education. In addition to teaching school, she was deeply involved in music, as both a piano instructor and church pianist.
While in college, Jean met and married Jeff Mahnke. They were married forty years. They raised their four children in a loving and Christ-centered home in Applegate, CA.
Although pressured by the grief of her husband's Parkinson's disease, Jean was faithful to love Jeff, and rest her hope in Jesus Christ. Jeff passed away in 2002.
Jean met Doug Taylor at a church Bible study in Bend. They realized a deep love for each other, and a common heart of love for Christ. They married in July 2003. Together Doug and Jean invested their lives in encouraging their family, supporting the ministry of Highland Baptist Church, and participating in extended ministry trips to Mexico.
Jean is survived by her husband, Doug Taylor; and her four children; and their families, Mike and Diana Mahnke of Bend, OR; Bill and Kittie Mahnke and their children, Colin, Abbi, and Karis of Redmond, OR; Mark and Holly Mahnke and their children, Alli, Erica and McKenna of Redmond, OR; Sarah Elliott and her children, Madison, Ethan and Flore of Bend, OR.
Those who knew Jean best were touched by her love for others, enthusiasm for living and gentle presence. She would attribute this to her relationship with the Lord. Even with cancer, she knew she was in the care of her Heavenly Father, and her hope was unshakable.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m., at Highland Baptist Church in Redmond.
Autumn Funerals, Redmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
