Patrick Register, 44, left, and Duane Jones, 47, both of Portland, move a refrigerator out of the home of Clella Thomas, 63, on Wednesday morning in Bend. The Fridge Recycling Challenge, a program of the Energy Trust of Oregon, pays customers of Pacific Power and Oregon General Electric $50 to donate old freezers and refrigerators. The donated items are taken apart and recycled. Thomas said the exchange was fantastic: “I was prepared to pay to have the thing hauled away, and instead they paid me to do it.”
