A Redmond man was killed Wednesday morning when a metal press weighing roughly 1,500 pounds fell on him at a Prineville wood products factory.
Fontana Wood Products employee Joshua Lee Ketchem, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sgt. James Savage of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Ketchem was dismantling the press, used to assemble roof trusses, as it rested on a forklift above him. At around 11:15 a.m., the press fell on Ketchem, pinning him to the ground.
Ketchem’s co-workers lifted the press off him shortly before sheriff’s deputies and medics from Crook County Fire & Rescue arrived at the factory. Medics loaded Ketchem into an ambulance and attempted life-saving measures, but were unable to revive him.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the incident, and foul play is not currently suspected.
