Two men were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 97 about four miles north of Bend Wednesday morning.
According to Oregon State Police, at around 6:15 p.m., Matthew D. Morkert, 21, of Bend, attempted to make a U-turn from the southbound shoulder. Driving south in the left lane, Kyle T. Staton, 22, of Prineville, collided with Morkert’s vehicle on the driver’s side.
Both men were taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend for treatment of their injuries.
Morkert was cited with driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. He was driving on a suspended license, the OSP said in a news release, and additional charges may be pending.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of the highway for about two hours, with traffic re-routed into the southbound lanes.
