La Pine man fails to elude police

A 48-year-old La Pine-area man was arrested Saturday afternoon following his attempt to elude from Oregon State Police.

Police report that an Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife trooper attempted to stop a Honda Prelude for traffic violations near Sunriver Saturday afternoon. The driver then attempted to elude the trooper through neighborhoods south of Sunriver until crashing the vehicle. The man proceeded to run from the vehicle that was later confirmed stolen. According to a press release, the man, identified as Craig C. Marcum, 48, swam in an area river to escape and was eventually found by a Deschutes County Sheriff’s K-9 unit hiding in a shop building.

Marcum was taken into custody and underwent a medical evaluation before being placed in the Deschutes County Jail. He has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot, burglary in the second degree and criminal mischief in the second degree.
