Oregon State Police have identified the two men killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash north of Madras.
According to police, 91-year-old Warren Chester Ward, of Chula Vista, Calif., tried to pass a commercial truck traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 97 seven miles north of Madras on Friday. Ward, driving a rented Subaru, collided head-on with a Ford Explorer driven by Harold M. Curtis, 71 and from Antelope.
Curtis and Ward were both killed in the accident. Curtis’ passenger, Elizabeth A. Samul, 68 and of Antelope, was taken to Mountain View Hospital in Madras with non-life-threatening injuries.
