Oregon State Police temporarily closed northbound U.S. Highway 97 at the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge while investigating an apparent suicide Friday afternoon.
A man jumped from the bridge over Crooked River Gorge four miles north of Terrebonne at 2:49 p.m., according to OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings.
An OSP trooper was dispatched to the bridge after a caller reported to 911 that a vehicle was stopped on the bridge with its door open. The trooper arrived on scene six minutes later, according to the news release. Shortly after the trooper stopped, a man standing near the railing jumped off the bridge, according to a news release by Hastings.
A later OSP news release confirmed that the man's body had been recovered.
