Oregon State Police temporarily closed northbound U.S. Highway 97 at the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge while investigating an apparent suicide this afternoon.

A man jumped from the bridge over Crooked River Gorge four miles north of Terrebonne at 2:49 p.m., according to OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings.

The bridge has since been reopened, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Trip Check website.

An OSP trooper was dispatched to the bridge after a caller reported to 911 that a vehicle was stopped on the bridge with its door open.

The trooper arrived on scene six minutes later, according to the news release. Shortly after the trooper stopped, a man standing near the railing jumped off the bridge, according to a news release by Hastings.
