A man suspected of attempting to rob a sex shop early Saturday was captured later in the morning, according to Bend Police.

In a news release, police said Lucas Ray Evans, 30, of Bend, had been at Imagine That, an adult video and novelty store on Third Street, for a little over an hour when he stepped out briefly at around 1 a.m. Back inside, Evans reportedly told employees he wanted to go back to jail, and announced his intention to rob the store.

Evans allegedly used a “cylinder type object” to point at employees while demanding money — Sgt. Brian Kindel said employees initially thought it may have been a firework — and was told to leave. He refused, the release stated, and grabbed an envelope of cash from the counter and attempted to leave the store.

Patrons heard the commotion, and tackled Evans as he left. The money was returned, and the store did not report the robbery.

At around 9:41 a.m. Saturday, Evans was detained by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office as part of an unrelated investigation. Bend Police developed additional information about the incident at Imagine That, and arrested Evans on charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree theft and second-degree criminal trespassing.

As of 9 p.m. Saturday, Evans was being held at the Deschutes County jail.
