A Milwaukie man was seriously injured in a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 26 west of the Warm Springs Reservation on Saturday morning.
Tyler Van Vactor, 19, was transported to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland by helicopter following the crash at around 10:45 a.m. According to Oregon State Police, Van Vactor was westbound when he stopped his Volkswagen Jetta in order to make a left turn on a Forest Service road. Richard G. Stevens, 67, from Vancouver, Wash., was driving a westbound 36-foot motor home coming through a curve and collided with Van Vactor’s Volkswagen, propelling it more than 150 feet before it came to rest in the trees off the eastbound shoulder.
Stevens and his passenger were not injured. The crash closed all traffic on the highway for 30 minutes, and a single lane was opened for motorists before the highway was cleared after approximately two hours.
