The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman shot and killed in an altercation with law enforcement on Tuesday night as 54-year-old Cindy Annette Shepard.
Deputies responded to a home on Southwest 67th Street, near state Highway 126 east of Redmond, to investigate “suspicious circumstances” just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Unidentified suspects fired at the deputies and after the deputies returned fire, Shepard was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release.
The major crimes team is investigating the incident. The team includes the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Bend Police Department, Redmond Police Department, Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, Oregon State Medical Examiner and Redmond Fire and Rescue.
