March 3, 1931 - June 2, 2013

Shirlie Mae Hess passed away June 2, 2013, quietly from the challenges of Alzheimers. Shirlie was born in Shoshone, ID, on March 3, 1931, to Chester and Francis Myers. She moved to Cottage Grove, OR, while in grade school and graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1949.

Shirlie married Lavern A. Hess and were together 50 years until his death in 1999. They have three children, Darla Rozelle (Bend), Sheri Yates (Eugene), and Kirby Hess (Silverton). While raising her family she worked for the Cottage Grove School District. In 1971, the family moved to Central Oregon, where she resided until her death.

In Central Oregon, she worked in the banking industry and retired from Bank of the Cascades in the mortgage department. After retiring, Shirlie and Lavern enjoyed travelling south to enjoy the desert in the winter. She also enjoyed golfing, dancing, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.

A celebration of Shirlies life will be held June 30, 2013, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at the Cottage Grove Elks, 755 N. River Road.

Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements. Please sign the guest book at www.niswonger-reynolds.com and share your memories of Shirlie.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Shirlie to Central Oregon Junior Golf Association, P.O. Box 6975, Bend, OR 97708 or a charity of ones choice.
