On Wednesday, the Bend Park and Recreation District purchased a 4.5-acre tract due west of the Bend Senior Center at the corner of S.E. 15th Street and Reed Market Road on Wednesday for $600,000.
District Executive Director Don Horton said the land will be used to accommodate a proposed expansion of the senior center the district plans to build in five or six years. The park district also plans to set aside a portion of the property so it can build a new entranceway connecting 15th Street with the senior center and Larkspur Park and to sell 0.4 acres of the property to the city so it can be used to build a roundabout at the intersection.
Horton said the park district made the purchase using money from a bond referendum that went before voters in November 2012. This was the first piece of land that was purchased with that money, he said.
