The I-82 Calvary Squadron, an infantry brigade combat team of the Oregon Army National Guard based in Bend, is one of 41 National Guard combat teams to participate in annual training in preparation for possible deployment to Afghanistan in 2014.
The training is taking place at the Orchard Combat Training Center near Boise this month. The I-82 Calvary Squadron is headquartered in Bend and has subordinate units in Lebanon, Redmond, Klamath Falls and Burns.
Along with the 40 other combat teams, the squadron received notification of potential deployment last year. However, it’s possible the mission could be canceled or changed leading up to mid-2014.
