Ninety-five percent of Americans believe farm animals should be well cared for, according to an American Farm Bureau poll. It’s therefore not surprising that four of every five Americans support HR 1731, also known as the Egg Productions Inspection Act. The bill, which could be inserted into this year’s Farm Bill, would eliminate the cruel extreme confinement of egg-laying hens. But it doesn’t just help animals — it helps farmers and consumers, too. The bill sets the first clear federal standards for egg farmers, who currently must navigate a hodgepodge of state laws. Farmers need this certainty in order to invest and create new jobs. Rep. Greg Walden, please help farmers and animals by supporting HR 1731.
