Home Instead Senior Care named Grants Pass resident Virginia Brown as the Oregon winner for its Salute to Senior Service Contest on Sunday. Brown is in the running for the national prize, a $5,000 donation to a charity of her choice.
Nominated by the Josephine County Circuit Court, Brown has worked as a volunteer bailiff for the past 25 years and as an ombudsman who advocated for patients at Southeast Oregon nursing homes and hospitals.
Brown was one of 13 senior volunteers from Oregon - three of whom work in Crook and Deschutes counties - who were nominated through the contest’s website www.salutetoseniorservice.com. She won the state prize after getting more votes than anyone else in the contest’s online voting portion. Home Instead Senior Care is an in-home care provider for seniors and has a franchise in Bend.
