Geothermal drilling proposed

A Nevada geothermal power plant developer wants to drill 16 exploratory wells on public and private land about 70 miles southeast of Bend, and the Bureau of Land Management is taking public comments about the proposal until Saturday.

Ormat Nevada, a subsidiary of Ormat Technologies, would use existing roads or build new ones to reach the sites near Glass Buttes in northeast Lake and western Harney counties, according to the BLM. The company would create well pads of 2-4 acres for each well and haul in drilling rigs. Three of the proposed wells are on private land.
