Cellphone owners can receive emergency alert notices from Deschutes County 911, according to a news release.
The Deschutes County Citizen Emergency Notification System notifies the public with important information during an emergency. Until now, the service was only available on landline phones. Now the service is available on cellphones and Voice over Internet Protocol phones.
Citizens can register online to receive emergency alerts by visiting www.deschutes.org/citizenalerts or by calling Deschutes County 911 at 541-388-0185.
Registrants will be asked to provide contact information and an email address. Callers may register multiple numbers for the service and may also choose whether alerts come in the form of a text message, a phone call or an email message.
