The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs invites the public to attend its 23rd annual Honor Seniors Day on Friday at the Agency Longhouse, 1253 Kotnum Rd., Warm Springs.
The honor day originated with a small group of tribal elders who wanted an event especially for elders. Through the years, the day has grown into a major community event, drawing as many as 700 to 1,200 elders and locals.
The free event starts around 9 a.m. with early childhood education and Head Start programs holding a pow-wow. Throughout the day attendees can play games and win door prizes. Lunch is provided around noon, according to a news release that noted that the day is not tied to an exact schedule. An Elvis impersonator will perform at about 4 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Signs will direct attendees to the longhouse from U.S. Highway 26, and a shuttle service will be available from the Indian Head Casino and The Museum at Warm Springs.
