Astronomy event today in Sisters

Sisters will celebrate National Astronomy Day today at the Sisters Park and Recreation District’s Coffield Community Center, 1750 W. McKinney Butte Road.

The astronomy event, a collaborative effort of the Sisters Astronomy Club, Sisters Park and Recreation District and Sisters School District, will include talks about various aspects of astronomy, star shows in an inflatable star lab, solar viewing with telescopes fitted with special filters, demonstrations of the scale of our solar system and other informational displays, according to a press release. Participants will include Pine Mountain Observatory, the Oregon Observatory at Sunriver, members of the Sisters Astronomy Club and others.

The free celebration will begin at 1 p.m. and will conclude with a start watch after an 8:30 p.m. presentation about the moon.
