A 37-year-old Redmond man swam a canal attempting to elude city police Friday, Redmond Police reported.
Andrew Burchett failed to stop for an officer who signalled him to pull over on suspicion of a traffic violation near Southwest Canal Boulevard and Umatilla Avenue, according to police. Burchett steered the 2001 Dodge Durango into the parking lot of Brookside Manor, fled on foot and swam the canal, police stated.
Oregon State Police assisted with arresting Burchett when he emerged from the canal. He was held at the Deschutes County jail on felony and misdemeanor counts of attempt to elude, reckless driving, felon in possession of a weapon, trespass and criminal mischief.
