April 8, 1934 - Jan. 21, 2013
Charles 'Chuck' Frederick Grossman, beloved volunteer, jazz bassist and pianist, uncle,
friend, and model airplane hobbyist, died at his home in Bend on January 21, 2013.
Born in Lakewood, Ohio, on April 8, 1934, to Frederick Karl Grossman and Helen Jane Burket Grossman, Chuck joined the Air Force right after high school. After serving four years in Japan and Korea, he moved to southern California, where he worked for the phone company and then the Veterans Administration for many years. He moved to Bend in the mid-1980s with his longtime friend Dottie Aspel.
Preceded in death by Dottie; his parents; and brother, Glenn Burket Grossman. Chuck is survived by his niece and nephews, Kathy Grossman in Moab, Utah, Chris Grossman (wife, Barbara) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Karl Grossman (wife, Janice Guerrero) in Dominguez Hills, California.
Never one to seek the limelight, Chuck had given lifetime hours of volunteer service through RSVP, the City of Bend, and other Bend-area nonprofits and given generously to charities. In spite of his request to hold no services, friends and family gathered at the Shilo Inn on February 7, to celebrate Chucks life of service, humor, and music.
Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
