William Ernest Ernie McCormack

Ernie passed away in Redmond, OR on Jan. 31, 2013, after a valiant fight against lung cancer. He was born in Roseburg, OR to Grant (Pink) and Dorothy (Whipple) McCormack, and lived in Drain and Yoncalla during his school years and early married life. He moved to Springfield in 1972, then to Redmond in 1998.

Ernie was a master of many trades, learning the skills from his ”Pops”, working on the ranch and helping with the many construction projects Pink had going - he was 100% committed to each task and job at hand. He never had a job he didn't like, with his favorite being behind the wheel, driving the big rigs and luxury motor coaches across the country. His adventurous spirit shined in this profession and he was able to show his humorous side as well, pulling the tail end of a rig out into the next lane when driving the steer trailer, just to get a reaction from the other motorists and to wake up the primary driver. He always had a joke or amusing story to share. He never met a stranger who wouldn't later become a friend, and Ernie was one of the most generous people you'd ever meet. He always lent a hand whenever and wherever he could.

Hunting, fishing, camping and being out in nature were activities that brought him much joy. He especially loved the time spent at his grandparents' cabin at Crescent Lake, both when he was young and later on, bringing his girls. Ernie also became an avid darts-man and pool-player.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri, his parents, his sisters, Kay and Linda, and his brother, Ray. He is survived by his daughter, Shawny; nephews, John, Mike, and Willie; nieces, Gail and Pam; several grand and great-grand-nephews, nieces and other family members and friends who will miss him greatly.

Ernie's wish was that we share our memories of him in joy, so there will be a barbeque at Crescent Lake scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it was also his wish that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice, in his memory.
