Yes, you can change a child’s life! Support child abuse prevention! Deschutes County sponsored a legislative bill to create a “Keep Kids Safe” license plate for all of Oregon in the last legislative session. That plate is now ready for us to put on all our vehicles.

In 2011 in Deschutes County, nearly 500 children were abused or neglected. These children would fill nine school buses. We pay for child abuse with increased foster care, juvenile crime, child welfare, special education and prison costs. The costs and pain of child abuse can be prevented. As caring and concerned citizens, we must do everything in our power to protect and nurture our community’s children.

The “Keep Kids Safe” license plate is a great way to do your part to help raise awareness. Proceeds from this plate ($30 surcharge) go to Deschutes County child abuse prevention programs.

You may obtain these plates by applying at a DMV office. (You pay the $30 surcharge for a two-year registration period.) Plates are available at the time of renewal, in between renewal periods or at the time of purchase of a new car.

To learn more about this program, you may contact www.ctfo.org/kkslicenseplate. Don’t delay, drive the message home. Change a child’s life by changing your license plates!
